Dave Airel retired in 2019 from a 40+ year career in the technology industry, having led engineering, operations and sales teams across the US. Dave joined CMUS’ board in January 2021, and is focusing on CMUS’ website, social media presence and strategic planning effort. Dave lives on Kent Island with his wife Kathy, and is currently our board chair.
Laura Connor (Treasurer)
A CMUS volunteer mediator for 5 years, Laura joined the CMUS Board of Directors in 2021 and currently serves as its Treasurer. She was Human Resources Director for a national environmental law firm in Washington, DC before she retired. Laura was a founding member of Plastic Free QAC, a nonprofit organization in Queen Anne’s County.
Valerie G.S. Hirsch (Secretary)
Valerie joined the CMUS Board in 2019 and is currently serving as Secretary. She is an active mediator for CMUS, trained by Community Mediation Maryland (CMM). Valerie also serves on the Queen Anne’s County Ethics Commission. Valerie had a 25-year legal career as a senior attorney with the Department of Defense where she specialized in Procurement, Administrative, Fiscal, and Ethics Law; she retired from the U.S. Navy’s Office of General Counsel. Valerie and her husband Thom live on Kent Island.
Stan Ruddie
Stan is a mediator trained by Community Mediation Maryland (CMM). A former member of the QA Ethics Commission appointed in 1993 & again in 2016, Stan is a community activist promoting sustainable growth in Maryland since 1999. Stan graduated Baltimore Polytechnic 1970, U of MD in BA in Communications 1975, AACC Paralegal Studies 2001. Stan is a life-long photographer, video / audio producer for schools, governments, associations, US Senate / House, & public & commercial clients. Stan is currently, rental real estate manager, EPA certified lead inspector, ordained minister.
David Tobin
David and wife Maria moved to Kent County in early 2021 and live in Rock Hall with their dogs and horses. David joined the CMUS Board soon after their move and is active in strategic planning for the organization. He is a trained mediator with years of experience mediating with the District Court and thru the Conflict Resolution Center of Montgomery County. He manages public-private partnerships and works in real estate acquisition and project management for the Park Development Division of the Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission. David brings over 30 years of experience in non-profit management, leadership, planning, advocacy, and fund development to his position with the CMUS Board.
