What is Mediation?

REQUEST MEDIATION
Mediation is a process that brings people together to clarify issues, discuss options and, if possible, reach an agreement. It is an alternative to non-resolution or costly legal measures.

Mediation is voluntary and confidential.  If an agreement is not reached, people can still take their case to court if they wish.

WHAT'S NEW AT COMMUNITY MEDIATION UPPER SHORE

CMUS Partners with QACPS to
Build More Peaceful Schools

Picture

CMUS has recently expanded its multi-year partnership with Queen Anne's County Public Schools (QACPS) with additional on-site mediation programs for students, faculty and administrators. This partnership was recently highlighted in this Bay Times / News Observer article.

According to Penni Walker-Doyle, CMUS' Executive Director, "When students don’t worry about interpersonal conflicts, they can focus more on their learning instead of being distracted by a rift between friends."

Cameron Ronayne, CMUS' schools program coordinator,  adds "In partnership with QACPS, CMUS is offering additional services to students, including conflict and attendance mediation, community-building circles for staff and students, conflict awareness workshops, IEP facilitations, and other services to all of QACPS."

If you are in a conflict (at school, at home, at work, with a neighbor,  landlord or tenant ...) that would benefit from community mediation, or if you'd like to volunteer your time as a community mediator (CMUS will provide all necessary training), scroll down for more information or simply drop us an email at info@cmusmediation.org.

Because of the generous support of our neighbors, we have exceeded our goal for our Annual Appeal. To those of you who donated, THANK YOU! If you'd still like to support CMUS, just scroll up and click on the MAKE  A DONATION button.

CMUS
works with families, friends, neighbors, co-workers, and other community members to help them resolve conflicts. Our services are offered free of charge for participants, while private services of this kind can cost upwards of $200 per hour.

CMUS served more than 95 families in 2021, and in early 2020 had been on track to serve 175 families.

In 2021, CMUS mediated a variety of family matters—parents in recovery, co-parents making schedules for sharing time with their children, partners seeking reconciliation, grandparents raising their grandchildren, among many others. We also provided mediation for a variety of community conflicts for landlords/tenants, neighbors, co-workers, businesses/consumers, and more. Our community members were able to utilize our services both in and out of court.

With your support, we will expand our presence and partnership within our greater community and aspire to serve at least 150 families in the coming year.
