Upcoming Events for November and December 2016

​There are several upcoming events across the State and right next door!  Please let me know if you would like to attend any of them.  I’ll give you more complete information and even help coordinate carpooling.  Penni--
 
November 5th Queen Anne’s County Make a Difference Day is an event providing and offering services to homeless community members and those on the edge of becoming homeless.  If enough people volunteer, we could do shifts from 8-12 and 11:30-2.  Grasonville Elementary School 8 a.m.-2 p.m.  Free.
 
November 9th The Legal Studies Institute, in conjunction with the Social Justice Collaborative, will be presenting a panel of legal and community experts on domestic violence focusing on warning signs to watch for, the prevalence of domestic violence in our community, relationship violence in the LGBT community and strategies for how to help someone you suspect is a victim of domestic violence.  6:30 p.m. Anne Arundal Community College in Arnold. $50.

​November 9th Transgender Day of Remembrance ritual of honoring those lost for bravely expressing their true selves. In this time of rapid social change, it is most important to continue to learn about and from our LGBTQ communities.  This evening will begin with simple yet meaningful tributes followed by related performances chosen to continue PFLAG's mission of education, support and advocacy for our LGBTQ communities.  PFLAG intends to leave you with hope, peace and understanding that will enable all of us to make the world, especially our Eastern Shore, a better place to live with dignity and respect for all. Several prominent regional artists will be performing for us after the vigil.  Cosponsored by CMUS, Washington College EROS and The C.V. Starr Center, and The Garfield.  The Garfield Center for the Arts at the Prince Theatre, Chestertown 7p.m.-9 p.m.  Free.  CMUS volunteers for this event would be greatly appreciated!
 
November 16 Brown Bag The Honorable John H. Nunn, III, Associate Judge, District Court of Maryland, District 3, Kent County.  People that reach an agreement in mediation are half as likely (21%) to return to court for enforcement actions compared to cases that reached a verdict (46%).  Come hear a judge’s perspective of mediation in his court.  CMUS Chestertown at noon.  Free.
 
November 21 Community Mediation Maryland Membership Meeting will focus on police complaint mediation; We will begin with an overview and examples from Calvert County and Baltimore City, then Bill McMahon, Director of Maryland Police Training & Standards Commission, and Lorig of CMM will discuss their work around state-wide best practices.  North Point Library in Dundalk 10-12.  Free lunch provided. 
 
December 9 Maryland Mediator’s Convention.  Gather with fellow mediators of all styles from around the State for a fun filled day 
Maritime Institute in Linthicum 8 a.m.-5 p.m. $60. 
 
December 21 Brown Bag Wrapping Up 2016 and Looking Forward to 2017 Penni Walker Doyle CMUS ExDir.  CMUS Chestertown at noon.  Free.
